Duncan – Rehabilitation Project in Spartanburg County

In October of 2015 the Rehabilitation Project in Spartanburg County was awarded to Sloan Construction.  This project consists of reconstruction on I-85 from mile marker 56.1 to 67.1 north and south bound.  The I-85 project is located between Spartanburg and Greenville from where I-85 and Highway 14 intersect to where highway 1-29 in Spartanburg County, SC.  Interstate 85 is the   major Interstate route for people and goods traveling between Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA, and is also a vital link to the cities of Spartanburg and Greenville, SC.  Nearly 86,000 vehicles pass through this section of I-85 each day, earning the name I-85 Corridor as being the second busiest section of I-85 in all of South Carolina.

The work required to fulfill this contract involves constructing and removing the existing structure to a minimum of 5 inches deep while replacing the new structure with 7 inches of Asphalt.  During this process the median barrier wall will be cleaned and painted, guardrails will be reset and adjusted, and the catch basins will be adjusted after the surface lift.  The work will be accomplished by staging the construction of the new lanes and ramps around the flow of traffic for the existing construction process through night time and weekend closures.  Sloan’s paving crews will be working 12 hour night shifts from 7pm – 7am. The construction started in December 2015 with an anticipated completion by December 2017. The job is anticipated to improve safety and ride-ability when finished, resulting in a positive impact to all passengers who travel through the I-85 Corridor.
