Our History

Sloan Construction Company was founded by E.D. Sloan in 1933 after the Great Depression caused the collapse of his former employer, Carolina Road Surfacing Company. Mr. Sloan received two old dump trucks in the liquidation of the company and began to contract work as a sole proprietor. His first big contract was with the U.S. Navy to repair the storm damaged breakwater at the Key West Naval Station in 1933. After 13 years of success, Sloan Construction Company was chartered as a Corporation in South Carolina in 1946.

From a work crew of a few employees, Sloan has expanded to a workforce of more than 500—with each one dedicated to a job well done. Our management staff is composed of experts in the industry, with an average of 20 years experience in the heavy construction industry. We take pride in advancement from within the ranks, and many of our team leaders trace their employment from hands-on project experience to upper management. Their familiarity with the entire construction process brings a high level of knowledge to every successful project completion.

Sloan Construction Company remained in the Sloan family until 1998 when the company was acquired by publicly-held COLAS, Inc., a leader in road construction across the world.
