About Blacksburg Quarry
Sloan Construction Company, Inc. constructs highway and commercial projects, all of which vary in size from large parking lots, industrial plant expansions, to interstates and airports. Our goal is to become more vertically integrated in our industry while we create employment opportunities and economic development for Cherokee County.
In Cherokee County, near Blacksburg, lies a specific type of granite that is used to build roads, bridges, homes and schools which will serve communities in North and South Carolina. The Blacksburg Mine will cover an area of approximately 54 acres within a 314 acre tract. The site is located along I-85, southwest, of the SC-198 interchange.
Sloan is currently seeking a permit to develop the mine in Cherokee County. The proposed Blacksburg Mine will be both South Carolina and North Carolina Department of Transportation certified. The operation will produce about 1 million tons a year of construction-grade aggregate, serving construction projects along the I-85 corridor in both North and South Carolina.
As Sloan works with local, state and federal agencies reviewing the company's plans, we are working to keep the public informed. This web site is your link to Sloan's plans for the mine and highlights of the project's economic benefits to the region.
